Pleiostachya pruinosa is a medium sized plant, about 6 feet tall, native to rainforests from southern Mexico to Ecuador with broad, long-stalked leaves similar to a Calathea. The leaves are dull green above and the undersides are reddish maroon. The inflorescences consist of several branches covered in densely spaced, furry bracts resembling wheat, opening up to expose light purple flowers. Use as an accent plant in a tropical garden or as a container plant on a patio. Prefers semi-shade to full shade, moist well-drained soil and occasional misting. (Pot size: 3 gallon)
