Gardenia carinata
Golden Gardenia is a large shrub or small tree, reaching a height between 10-20 ft in South Florida but easy to prune to smaller sizes. It is one of the few Gardenia species that tolerate limestone soils like those of South Florida on their own roots (without grafting). Fragrant pinwheel-shaped flowers are golden-yellow at maturity. One specimen of this beautiful tree can be seen just outside the Visitors Center at Fairchild. It is from Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia, prefers full sun, moderate water, and well-draining soil. (Pot size: 3 gallon)
